Auto Recycling Information
January 24th, 2012 at 4:37Auto recycling refers to the disassembling of automotive vehicles for spare parts. This process is normally associated with a vehicle that has outlived its useful life, the auto owner will generally trade in their vehicle to a recycler for monetary compensation, and the recycler in turn shred the vehicle to acquire secondary material, which is used to manufacture other useful products such as steel. The steps in auto recycling involves vehicle processing for reusable parts which are then forwarded to other facilities where materials obtained are used for further processing. This does not only contribute to reusable material but also to other industrial and environmental benefits.
Vehicle Processing
The first step to auto recycling is processing, whenever a vehicle is taken to a recycler or scrap yard the vehicle is processed. This processing involves assessing the vehicle and removing parts that may still be useful such as car seats, windshields, brake pads and shoes, car radios, engine parts or any other component that might not be recoverable after its shredded, but might be reused or resold as parts to interested buyers. The vehicle then goes through shredding, where a variety of material types maybe obtained, these include iron, steel, plastic, nonferrous metal and other spoils such as rubber and cloth. These materials are then sorted and some are sent to other facilities.
Usefulness of Auto Recycler
Materials such as iron and steel obtained from shredding can be used as a base in the remanufacturing of other motor cars and steel. According to Steel Recycling Institute, the recycling of one ton of oil filters can generate approximately 1700 lbs of steel and also oil that may be reusable. This can be very useful in limiting mining drastically. Additionally, using auto recycler limits materials being disposed of in landfills that can be hazardous especially if it gets into water source. Many auto recyclers have employees who are trained to handle hazardous substances that may be found in cars such as brake fluid, gas and oil, by carefully removing these substances they limit the threat of affecting wildlife or leaking into water sources.
Information on recycling
As recycling becomes a necessary and global issue, it befits individuals to know where and how to garner information on good recycling. Information on recycling can be obtained from local libraries; variety of publications that are printed which speaks especially to green environment. Additional information can be gathered by visiting a recycling plant and/ or by further reading about the subject online.
