This week sees the launch of the Guardians newest hub, which focuses on waste and recycling. The hub will collate news, comment, best practice and discussion relating to waste management, strategy and reduction.

The waste and recycling hub will give corporate sustainability professionals access to the latest thinking on the opportunities and challenges relating to waste and recycling from experts and practitioners in the field.

There will be a series of interactive discussions where experts will be debating the big issues around waste and responding to questions. They are also providing a set of case studies on companies leading in this space via our best practice exchange, which features all of the best entries to this year’s GSB Awards.

The launch of the hub is timely as it corresponds with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ publication of its comprehensive review of waste policy. Priorities set out in the review include Government working with industry to drive innovation in reuse and recycling of products such as metals, textile and biodegradable waste and a focus on reducing waste creation through voluntary responsibility deals aimed at hospitality industry, paper, direct mail, textiles, and construction waste. The Guardian will be looking into what these priorities mean for businesses in more detail over the coming weeks.

Many organisations are already implementing broad reaching strategies which aim to reduce their waste. Examples include Sainsbury’s which has cut packaging levels by 12 million kilograms over the past year and Waitrose which has implemented anaerobic digestion systems in half of its stores.

They will kick off with a blog from Leon Kaye looking at how companies are implementing cradle-to-cradle systems into the way they think about waste management. Also featured is a blog which explores how trade associations and industry federations are coming together to reduce marine waste. Thirdly we hear from Jos Daalhuizen, business director of DHL Envirosolutions (who are supporting the waste and recycling hub) on the business case for reducing waste.

Cawleys has always been at the forefront of recycling since the 1970′s when its first Waste Recycling Facility was constructed in Luton. Since then the site has been developed with a Zero Landfill objective and now houses a cutting edge commercial Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). This enables Cawleys to reclaim and recycle as much as possible ranging from office waste, construction waste, scrap metal, wood, card or plastic materials.

For more information on recycling updates please follow our Twitter page on http://twitter.com/#!/cawleys or visit our website for more information http://www.cawleys.co.uk/Home?Cawleys have depots in Luton, Milton Keynes and Wellingborough meaning we can cover from London to the South Midlands including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and Northamptonshire.

Cawleys offer a professional and expert service for all your waste management and recycling requirements. Family owned and run Cawleys retain a core ethos of excellent customer care employing experienced industry professionals and a dedicated team of support staff to provide the best service we can to all our customers be they large or small.

After finishing a can of cold drink, you just fling it into the dustbin without giving it a slightest though as to what is going to happen to the can after that. Well, truth is, aluminum recycling has become an extremely popular practice. Thanks to the host of benefits that it has in store for the environment, more and more people are opting for this particular process to ensure our planet’s welfare. Some of the advantages of aluminum recycling have been discussed below.

Environmental benefits:

Recycling of the aluminum cans can help to conserve the natural resources to a great extent apart from controlling the level of pollution in the earth’s atmosphere. During the mining and purifications of metals, a lot of poisonous gases are emitted into the earth’s atmosphere. One such gas is called sulphur dioxide which is extremely harmful and causes a lot of damage to the environment. With the help of aluminum recycling, such emissions can be controlled to a great extent. On the other hand, they save up on a lot of energy as well as time thereby proving to be an extremely profitable venture. Aluminum is a sustainable metal and can be recycled again and again thereby making sure that the natural resources are not exhausted completely and we have something to leave behind for the survival of the next generation.

Economic Benefits:

The most valuable container to recycle is the aluminum can. In fact, it is the most recycled consumer product in the United States of America today. On a yearly basis, the aluminum industry pays more than $ 800 million for empty cans made of aluminum. The money that is earned from recycling aluminum cans can be used for the betterment of people as well as their communities. Apart from aluminum beverage cans, siding, car parts, window frames and lawn furniture can also be reused after recycling. Aluminum has a high recycle value and hence this process provides for a lot of economic incentives.

If you have a lot of scrap metal or aluminum cans lying around in your home, the best option for you is to sell them for the purpose of recycling.

The environment has been very generous in providing humans their basic needs. But the humans in return seem to ignore the benefits which they have acquired from the environment. And this is the primary reason as to why the earth is now suffering from detrimental pollutions mainly caused by human beings. You can still help the dying earth through recycling. The following are 3 simple and yet effective recycling tips which you need to consider if you want to save the environment:

1. Conserve paper. It is quite irrefutable that you use paper almost everyday and thus, your paper wastes are continuously increasing. But you can lessen your paper usage by creating double-sided copies for your notes, by communicating in a paperless approach or via emails, and by merely printing the pages which you only need. These things are just so simple to do but it has a great effect when it comes to saving the earth’s natural resources.

2. Develop a recycling program. You can actually do this in your office if your workplace does not have any recycling programs. All you need to do is to take the initiative, be passionate about it, and get in touch with your local recycling center which can assist you in starting your own program for recycling.

3. Recycle your office and electronic equipment. There are plenty pieces of equipment particularly electronic equipment which can still be recycled. You just have to communicate with the nearest recycling depots for they are the experts when it comes to recycling used pieces of equipment.

Indeed, recycling is the best act which you can do if you want to fulfill your duties as a responsible human being in saving the vanishing earth. After all, you still have enough time to do it. You only need to keep in mind the aforementioned tips in order to make your recycling tasks a bit easier and faster.

Recycling tips from the NY based “Eco-Twins” while they’re visiting Hollywood! How does Melissa McGinnis travel and recycle at the same time? It’s such a great question and Melissa is glad that Tyler asked her that. Being green on the go is easy if you look for a Greenopolis kiosk but one of the things that Melissa would always like to you to do is to hold on to your bottles. Don’t just throw them away at the first trash can you see. Hold on, keep it in your purse, or hold it in your hand until you see a recycling bin. That’s how to recycle on the go. If there’s no recycling bin then you can take the bottle home and maybe draw a face or make something new out of it. This is such a great tip. Everyone can learn from this one. If you can’t recycle it, then try to find a way to reuse it. Recycling helps the earth because it could save animals, it could save birds, puppies and all kinds of them. A lot of the animals that recycling helps to save are the ocean animals. There are a lot of animals in the ocean that mistake trash for food. They’re eating things that we could be recycling. Does Spongebob like to recycle? Absolutely, I recycle every single day. What’s the best part about Melissa’s job? Meeting people like Tristan and Tyler. Melissa loves going and meeting all different people, talking about recycling in ways that we can help save the earth. Tristan likes to save the earth too. We had fun today. Thanks for hanging out with us!

Article by Seo5 Consulting

While there are many instances where disposal of lubricants may be necessary in order to protect the health of those nearby, such as when the lubricant contain toxic contaminants, there are still many occasions when disposing of these lubricants is unnecessary and yet costs companies millions per year. Oil recycling solutions can help companies to put this money back in their accounts. And now, one specialist is making this process affordable for companies across North America with their outstanding new solutions such as mobile oil purification.

Chem-Ecol is the largest and most experienced oil purification technology specialist in North America. Since 1975 they’ve been noted for their ability to continually offer cutting-edge oil recycling solutions that allow their clientele to recover oil lost within their industrial processes, and thus recover energy production costs which can enter into the millions of dollars each year.

Chem-Ecol can reclaim almost any industrial waste oil and recover it back to like-new condition. Because of their innovative processing capabilities they can do this without allowing the oil to come in to contact with non-compatible oils, thus allowing it to be purified for re-use. The statistics truly speak for themselves – more than 99% of oil product purified through the company’s unique processing equipment is returned to their clients. And they can bring this outstanding capability directly to the clients through their mobile oil recycling solutions!

The company’s mobile oil reclamation units are considered to be 5-10 times more efficient than those services offered by their rivals. This is because they utilize a unique technology for water removal that works to speed up the purification process significantly, which helps to save the client time and money and produces purified oil for the client that has been restored to like-new quality in an industry-leading turnaround time.

Chem-Ecol’s system for oil purification is considered to be the requisite solution for those companies whose systems have been contaminated but are still in operational condition. While many companies’ mobile purification services require the industrial system to be shut down during the process, Chem-Ecol’s service is designed to work while production is on-going. This serves two overall benefits to the client. The first is that, by cleaning the system while it is in operation, the technicians can clean the entire system not just the reservoir in which a particular problem has occurred.

Replacing the reservoir will remove 50% of trapped oil in the piping, pumps and accumulators of a hydraulic system. But this only targets part of the problem, as other oil is still dirty and/or wet after coming into contact with contaminants in the system. The second benefit provided by conducting oil purification while production is on-going is the increase in productivity achieved by the client’s company. Following this treatment, the oil within the company’s equipment will be as clean if not cleaner than most new products delivered by oil companies – that’s the superior purification standard offered by the team at Chem-Ecol.

To learn more about the company’s outstanding suite of solutions or to receive a free oil analysis for your company’s in-house equipment, contact the team at Chem-Ecol today.

About Chem-Ecol:

If you would like to give someone a gift that is eco-friendly, unique and stylish, think about a recycled tire handbag or wallet. You can promote Fair Trade while helping a family and a local economy survive in difficult circumstances. It is like getting extra mileage on your tires!Over 290,000,000 tires are discarded every year in the United States alone. About 75% of these are recycled or reused in one way or another. Because it requires only about half the cost to produce a product using recycled rubber as it does to create a new product out of 100% virgin rubber, it make sense for business to use the material, and keeps the old tires out of landfills.Because of the great flexibility of recycled rubber, it has many commercial and industrial uses. States and some cities offer incentives for reusing rubber that has come from old tires in local and municipal projects, like curbs, flooring tiles and even the cushioning material under playground surfaces. Some of us even remember swinging from the old tire hanging from a tree in the back yard. Many people have used them in the garden. Some truly green builders have fashioned buildings from the tires packed with earth, this is a creative use and great insulation as well!Other uses abound, and because used tires are plentiful all over the world, even in the poorest locations, the tires and tubes are a resource for trade. Like many people living on the outskirts of an industrial area or with access to discarded materials, creative uses spring forth as a means of survival. Often, scavenging materials creates a key source of income. An artisan group in El Salvador, for example, makes recycled accessories crafted with cotton decorated with all-natural Anil, a native indigo thought to represent peace and prosperity. They have developed a business of recycling and reusing the tires and inner tubes of autos and trucks to create fashionable, hand-crafted handbags and wallets. They are well-made and make a statement about those who carry them. When a group depends on having access to a stable global marketplace in which to sell goods, it is of benefit to us all when that marketplace promotes the standards of non-exploitation that are often taken for granted in more industrialized nations. This manufacturer has been in business for over 20 years and is committed to Fair Trade practices, which includes a living wage for workers and humane working conditions.

Original battery recycling is a recyclingactivity that aims to reduce the number of being disposed as municipal solid waste. Batteries contain a number of heavy metals and toxic chemical, their dumping has raised concern over risks of soil contamination and water pollution. Most types can be recycled. However, some are recycled more readily than others, such as automotive batteries ( nearly 90% are recycled) and button cells( because of the value and toxicity of their chemicals). Large-capacity removable storage is none other than non-mobile hard disk, divided into 3.5 inches, 2.5 inch and 1.8-inch products. 3.5 inches HDD is too large, too heavy, so we only used for external equipment, do not always carry..8-inch drives on the performance and size than 2.5 inches to do a lot of good, and, 1.8-inch mobile hard disk popularity but also the future development of the dominant direction (small, portable). However, with the capacity 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch mobile hard disk, the former at least 50% higher price, therefore, in the current market for mobile hard disk, 2.5-inch mobile hard disk cost is relatively highHowever, due to the appearance of 1.8 inches small, easy to carry, ideal for those seeking ultra-mobile business users to buyOther types, such as alkaline and rechargeable, can also be recycled.Batteries include but are not limited to: car , golf cart , UPS , industrial fork-lift , motorcycle , and commercial batteries. These can be regular , sealed , get type, or absorbent glass mat . These are recycled by grinding them, neutralizing the acid, original battery and separating the polymers from the lead. The recovered materials are used in a variety of applications, including new batteries. The lead of lead-acid battery can be recycled. Many cities offer battery recycling services for lead-acid batteries. In some jurisdictions, including US states and Canadian Provinces, a refundable deposit is paid on batteries. This encourages recycling of old instead of abandonment or disposal with household waste. In the United States, about 97% of lead from used is reclaimed for recycling. 1.8 Inch Hard Disd Silver oxide batteries. Used most frequently in watches, toys and some medical devices, silver oxide batteries contain a small amount of mercury. In most jurisdictions there exists legislation to regulate the appropriate handling and disposal of silver oxide batteries to reduce discharge of mercury to the environment. Silver oxide batteries can be recycled to recover the mercury. www.originalbatterydeals.com

A glass bottle is a type of bottle that is made from glass and is used for storing various liquid products.

A bottle can simply be defined as a bottle that is made of glass. The bottles are available in various colors and sizes with their size being measured in milliliters.it come with only one opening that is always at the top of the top and above the bottle’s neck. The neck of the glass is usually thinner than the rest of the bottle’s body. Glass can be used for various functions with the main one being to the storage of soft drinks. It can also be used for cooking oil and a number of other liquids. Glass bottles are available in various sizes hence they can also be used to store liquids of large quantity.

Glass bottles are considered to be much better than plastic bottles as they are fully recyclable while plastics are not. It is also very cheap to recycle a glass bottle than to make one from scratch. The manufacture of plastic bottles takes a number of steps and the steps involved are: – collecting the raw materials that are required for the manufacturing process. The other stages that follow are: melting, annealing, physical inspection, machine inspection, quality checking and finally packaging. After the process is complete the glass is usually weak and therefore lamination needs to be done so as to strengthen them. This process of lamination involves the use of plastic to add a layer on top of the glass. This makes the plastic stronger and more resistant to breakage than just a pure glass.

Glass bottles are good for storing liquids. However, there some concerns that surround them since they are not degradable. This is therefore makes the glass bottle a bad product for packaging as they just end up polluting the environment. This can however be solved by recycling the glass and using them for packing other products instead of disposing them. It can also be done by the various bodies finding alternative ways of packaging products that are packed in Glass Bottles.
